How RTT Hypnotherapy Helps With Self-Esteem and Self-Worth

If you struggle with self-esteem or self-worth, you’ve probably already tried to talk yourself out of it.

You might have the job, the degree, the relationship, the people who tell you you’re doing well — and still feel a quiet, persistent “not enough” underneath. You know, on paper, that you’re competent. But it doesn’t land in your body. It doesn’t change how you feel when you’re alone with yourself.

That gap — between what you know and what you feel — is exactly where RTT hypnotherapy can be so effective for self-esteem and self-worth.

RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) works at the root: the original belief or experience where your self-perception was formed. It helps update that belief at a subconscious level, rather than only trying to think over the top of it. That’s why change with RTT often feels faster and more fundamental than months of talking around the same pattern.

Self-esteem struggles are one of the most common reasons women come to work with me. Here’s what’s usually happening beneath them — and how RTT approaches it differently.

What Is RTT Hypnotherapy?

RTT is a therapeutic method that combines clinical hypnotherapy with elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, psychotherapy, and neuroscience. It’s designed to:

  • locate the origin of a pattern (often in childhood or adolescence), and

  • work directly with the belief that formed there, rather than only managing the symptoms that show up later.

Hypnotherapy here doesn’t mean losing control or being “under.” It’s a state of deeply focused relaxation — similar to the hazy space just before sleep — where the conscious, analytical mind is quieter and the subconscious is more accessible. That makes it easier to connect the dots, update old conclusions, and install new, more accurate beliefs.

Research over decades suggests that clinical hypnotherapy can be a powerful therapeutic tool in its own right, and that combining hypnotherapy with cognitive-behavioural approaches tends to enhance outcomes compared with CBT alone.

Why Self-Esteem Struggles Are Rarely About the Facts

Most women who struggle with self-worth are not short on evidence.

They have:

  • achievements and qualifications

  • relationships and friendships

  • people around them who would describe them as capable, kind, or accomplished

What they’re missing isn’t proof. It’s an internal permission slip to believe the proof.

Underneath chronic low self-esteem there is usually:

  • a core belief such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’m too much,” “I always get it wrong,” or “I don’t really matter,”

  • installed long before adult evidence existed — often before age seven — through repeated experiences, emotional atmospheres, or unspoken messages absorbed from caregivers, school, peers, or early relationships.

Once that belief is in place, it doesn’t need to be true to keep running. It just needs to go unchallenged. The subconscious then filters your life through it:

  • praise feels like “they don’t really know me,”

  • criticism feels like confirmation,

  • success feels like luck,

  • and anything that doesn’t fit the belief is quietly dismissed.

This is why understanding self-esteem intellectually or layering affirmations over the top so often fails to move it. The belief isn’t sitting in the part of the mind that agrees or disagrees with sentences. It’s sitting underneath — in the patterns your nervous system learned as “how things are.”

How RTT Hypnotherapy Is Different From Talk Therapy for Self-Esteem

Talk therapy can be deeply valuable for processing, understanding, and feeling less alone in what you’re carrying. Many of my clients have done important work there before they ever come to RTT.

But insight and change are not always the same thing.

You can:

  • know exactly where your low self-esteem came from,

  • understand your family history in detail,

  • recognise every pattern you repeat in relationships

…and still feel the same “not enough” in your body the next day.

RTT is built specifically for that gap between understanding and feeling.

In a typical RTT process, we:

  1. identify the pattern and how it’s showing up now,

  2. go back — in hypnosis — to the scenes where that belief was formed,

  3. work with those scenes while the subconscious is actually accessible, and

  4. install a new, more accurate belief, recorded so it can be reinforced over time.

Instead of circling the pattern in conversation for months, RTT goes to where the nervous system and subconscious first drew the conclusion about your worth, and updates it there. The talking happens, but it happens around a process that is directly changing the belief, not only describing it.

What a Session Actually Involves

In my practice, a self-esteem/self-worth RTT Hypnotherapy process usually includes:

1. Initial conversation

We start with a conversation about:

  • how low self-esteem or low self-worth currently shows up (e.g., self-criticism, people-pleasing, overworking, difficulty receiving praise),

  • what you’ve already tried, and

  • what you’d like to feel instead.

This helps us frame the session and set a clear intention.

2. Hypnosis and Regression

You’re then guided into a relaxed, focused state — fully aware, able to speak and respond, just quieter internally. From there, we move through a small number of memories or scenes that your subconscious presents as connected to the current pattern.

These are often not the “biggest” or most obvious events, but the ones where your subconscious quietly decided:

  • “This is what I am,” or

  • “This is what I can expect from other people,” or

  • “This is how safe it is to be myself.”

We then work directly with those scenes — reframing what was concluded there, updating the belief with adult perspective, and releasing the emotional charge that’s been held in the body.

3. Personalised recording

The session closes with a tailored audio recording you listen to daily for a period (usually around 21 days). This isn’t generic affirmations. It’s specific to the beliefs we’ve updated and the way you actually want to feel about yourself.

Listening reinforces the new material while your brain is in that more receptive state, helping the change settle as your new normal.

At no point do you lose awareness or control. Most people are surprised by how natural and clear they feel — less like being “under hypnosis” and more like being very focused inward.

How Quickly Do You Notice a Shift?

Everyone’s nervous system and history are different, but there are common patterns.

Many clients:

  • notice an immediate sense of relief or lightness after the session itself,

  • start to feel concrete shifts in how they talk to themselves or respond to situations within days, and

  • experience a fuller, more settled shift over the following weeks, especially as they continue with the recording.

This pace contrasts with the slower, incremental change often associated with working on self-esteem purely through repeated talk-based sessions, because RTT is working at the level of the originating belief and nervous system patterns, rather than trying to build new thoughts on top of an unchanged foundation.

It’s also consistent with broader research suggesting that hypnosis, particularly when combined with cognitive-behavioural approaches, can enhance treatment effects and reduce the number of sessions needed compared with CBT alone.

Is Rapid Transformational Therapy Right for You?

RTT tends to be a good fit if:

  • you’ve already done some work — therapy, coaching, reading — and something deeper still feels unmoved,

  • you understand your patterns intellectually but don’t feel different in day-to-day life,

  • you’re not in acute crisis, but you know your self-worth isn’t where it could be and you’re ready to address it directly,

  • you’re open to working with your subconscious, not just your conscious mind.

If you’re dealing with severe mental illness, active addiction, or crisis, RTT is best used alongside other appropriate supports rather than as a standalone solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hypnotherapy really help with self-esteem?

Yes — for many people, it can. Because low self-esteem is typically rooted in subconscious beliefs rather than a true lack of worth or evidence, hypnotherapy is well suited to addressing it. Clinical research and meta-analyses suggest that hypnosis can be an effective therapeutic tool, and that adding hypnosis to cognitive-behavioural work can enhance and prolong treatment effects across a range of difficulties.pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih+4

RTT builds on this by combining hypnosis with structured root-cause work around the specific belief driving your self-esteem pattern.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. Hypnotherapy practiced to the highest ethical and professional standards is a natural, focused state of relaxation. You remain aware and in control throughout a session, can speak and respond, and cannot be made to do or say anything against your will.

How many sessions does RTT usually take?

RTT is designed as a brief, focused approach. Many clients see meaningful change from a single in-depth session (with the personalised recording used afterward), rather than an extended course of weekly sessions. Some women choose to do additional sessions to work on related patterns — for example, self-worth, relationships, or money — but we start with the most important pattern first.

What’s the difference between RTT and traditional hypnotherapy?

Traditional hypnotherapy often focuses on suggestion — telling the subconscious what you’d like it to believe instead. RTT Hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with root-cause work drawn from psychotherapy and neuroscience. The aim is not just to suggest a new belief, but to:

  • find the original conclusion your mind drew about your worth, and

  • update it at the place it was formed.

Suggestion still plays a role, but it’s built on a foundation that’s actually been changed.

Can RTT help with confidence as well as self-esteem?

Yes. Self-esteem (how you feel about your worth) and confidence (how you feel about what you can do) are closely linked. The same root-cause approach that addresses self-worth typically supports more sustainable confidence, because both are often driven by the same underlying beliefs.

(If you’d like to go deeper into the difference between confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth, I have a separate blog on that — you can find it below.)

Does RTT replace therapy?

RTT is a therapeutic approach in its own right, but it isn’t a replacement for all forms of therapy. It’s not a crisis service, and it’s not intended to manage severe mental illness on its own.

It’s best suited to women who:

  • are stable enough day-to-day,

  • want focused, root-level change on a specific pattern, and

  • are ready to engage with their subconscious and nervous system as part of that work.

If you’re curious whether RTT could help with a specific pattern you’re noticing — around self-esteem, self-worth, or confidence — you’re welcome to reach out or book a conversation to explore whether it feels like the right fit for you.
